Co.Launch: Rise of the Startup

The 2020 Fall Co.Launch Finale judges (L-R): Mindy Loverin (VP Strategic Partnership, Shutterstock), Jason Drummond (Investor, Broad Street Bulls), and Melanie Morrison (CEO, Bettercart and 2019 Spring Co.Launch Winner).

The Fall 2019 Co.Launch cohort featured the best 12 tech startups from an initial pool of nearly 40 applicants. Ultimately, 3 of those made it to the finale event to pitch for $20,000 in non-dilutive capital! Co.Launch is put on with support from Innovation Saskatchewan and Innovation Enterprise ❤️

The Finale Format

  1. 5-minute pitches

  2. 5-minute question period

  3. Judges deliberate and decide how to allocate $20,000 among finalists

As well, special shout out to Affinity Credit Union for sponsoring the event of 300+ people and making it a night to remember!

The Finalists

We are very excited to announce that all three finalists, based on their significant development throughout the Co.Launch program, have been offered spots in Co.Labs!

  • Cropper: A low-cost phenotyping software that creates timely, per plot image analysis that researchers can use to analyze data.

  • Planly: A FinTech application that provides both human and automated interactions to show how you should invest your money.

  • Let’s Camp: A platform that simplifies the process of booking and managing all your campsite reservations.

While all three impressed the judges with their pitches, Cropper and Planly were the two that ultimately walked away from the finale with $10,000 each!

William van Der Kamp, Founder of Cropper

“As a programmer from Sask, I always wanted to work on taking AgTech to the next level in our province. My progress is directly correlated to my pitch deck, which began as WordArt and bullet lists and, through constant improvement revision, ended up helping Cropper win $10,000 at the Co.Launch Finale! I know our spot in Co.Labs will provide the resources to help us spearhead Saskatchewan’s AgTech revolution.”
